7 Reasons Why Your Next Candle Should Be Made of Beeswax

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

Candle provides a special and soothing brim of light. It seems to be a physical light of hope and peace we all desire. Candle light sparks meditativeness and spiritual connection. Which is why we should also take into consideration what should our candle be made of — to be a perfect object for our soulful and personal encounter.

Get mesmerized by the fact that it takes approximately 33 million visits to flowers for bees to create a single pound of beeswax. This does make us feel like beeswax has a stronger spiritual connection to the power and productivity of nature. This beeswax is used to make candles among other things.

Beeswax is a non-toxic alternative to a common wax material used in candle-making which is paraffin. We listed here the reasons why we should prefer our candles to be made of beeswax instead of paraffin.

  1. Renewable Source: Beeswax is a product of honey-making by the bees. The wax from honeycombs is collected and processed to make candles. It is 100% natural and a renewable source. Paraffin wax is a byproduct of crude oil and its refining process. The wax is then treated with carcinogens for bleaching. Crude oil is a non-renewable source.

  2. Environmental-friendly: Beeswax being all natural does not produce toxic by-products and there are no chemical additions in the production of beeswax which makes it safe for those who have medical conditions such as asthma and allergies. Beeswax candles releases negative ions while burning which cleanse and purify the air.  Paraffin on the other hand has a high smoke rate and emits carcinogens that are harmful.

  3. Clean burning: Beeswax has a clean burn and does not hardly release soot when wick is trimmed properly. Paraffin wax being petroleum-based, releases a darker soot which could stain interior surfaces and curtains.

  4. Safety: Beeswax are naturally dripless which makes it safer to burn. This does avoid the risk of burning other surfaces. Paraffin candles are naturally prone to dripping.

  5. Aroma: Beeswax has a natural fragrance from honey itself and the flower nectars from beehives. Paraffin are mixed with artificial fragrances which could have adverse effects on health.

  6. Burning Time: Beeswax candles have a longer burning time than paraffin wax candles due to it being a denser wax and that they do not drip.

  7. Light: Beeswax candle emits a stronger and brighter light than a paraffin wax candle. Beeswax light are closest to natural sunlight.

Clearly, beeswax candles have more benefits than paraffin wax candles. Paraffin wax candles might be more common but a quality product is always a better choice.
